Traffic on roads may consist of pedestrians, ridden or herded animals, vehicles, streetcars and other conveyances, either singly or together, while using the public way for purposes of travel. Traffic laws are the laws which govern traffic and regulate vehicles, while rules of the road are both the laws and the informal rules that may have developed over time to facilitate the orderly and timely flow of traffic. Organized traffic generally has well-established priorities, lanes, right-of-way, and traffic control at intersections. Traffic is formally organized in many jurisdictions, with marked lanes, junctions, intersections, interchanges, traffic signals, or signs. Traffic is often classified by type: heavy motor vehicle (e.g., car, truck); other vehicle (e.g., moped, bicycle); and pedestrian. Different classes may share speed limits and easement, or may be segregated. Some jurisdictions may have very detailed and complex rules of the road while others rely more on drivers' common sense and willingness to cooperate. Organization typically produces a better combination of travel safety and efficiency. Events which disrupt the flow and may cause traffic to degenerate into a disorganized mess include: road construction, collisions and debris in the roadway. On particularly busy freeways, a minor disruption may persist in a phenomenon known as traffic waves. A complete breakdown of organization may result in traffic jams and gridlock. Simulations of organized traffic frequently involve queuing theory, stochastic processes and equations of mathematical physics applied to traffic flow. Traffic in English is taken from the Arabic word taraffaqa, which means to walk along slowly together. From Wikipedia under the
GNU Free Documentation License What are the requirements to becoming a air traffic controller in spain? Q. Im thinking I may move to Spain, and this is what I want as my career. Im going to join the US Air force and then after my service I want to be a air traffic controller. I would really like to live in Spain. I am not totally fluent in Spanish however, I can speak most of it. Definitely not enough to give air traffic directions yet. By the way I am a US citizen. Asked by Phill - Tue Jun 29 22:40:01 2010 - - 1 Answers - 0 Comments A. Well, Phill - What an equation there - US Citizen, wants to live in Spain, be ATC controller there, not too fluent Spanish. Where do we start...? In Spain, to be ATC controller, the union membership (or support) is more important than the qualifications. Although EU/Schengen agreements, not easy to get a job in Spain, let alone for another EU citizen, and then for a Yank...? I am sure they require Spanish Citizenship for controllers, like the FAA requires in USA for controllers (just a visa is not enough). The only place you could achieve this is to join the US Navy and be a controller at NAS Rota (close to Cadiz) - I often flew to MAD and BCN - Spanish is spoken 50% of the time on ATC frequencies, with Spanish airplanes, and South… [cont.] Answered by skipper747 - Wed Jun 30 08:44:49 2010 What are the rules at traffic lights and stop signs? Q. What I mean is who goes first and stuff like that.I try to avoid stop signs and traffic lights all because I havn't figured all this out yet. Asked by dollyfan - Sat Jul 29 13:51:31 2006 - - 13 Answers - 0 Comments A. Red light means you must stop, Green means you may go. Yellow means to stop if it is safe to do so. At a 4 way stop sign if 2 cars stop at approx, the same time, yield to the person on the right. This should help but if I may ask, how did you manage to get a driver's license if you haven't figured out basic rules of the road.
