They require immediate reporting if there are any changes to the information submitted on the original Canadian Study Permit. Matter of fact, until recently students were suppose to report a change in their major, although that is no longer the case. If the CIC isn't contacted and the proper documentation isn't issued for the extension, the chances of the student picking up their studies at their Canadian university in 8 months is slim to none.
