Waterloo Bridge is a road and foot traffic bridge crossing the River Thames in London, England between Blackfriars Bridge and Hungerford Bridge. The name of the bridge is in memory of the British victory at the Battle of Waterloo in 1815. Thanks to its location at a strategic bend in the river, the views of London (Westminster, the South Bank and London Eye to the west, the City of London and Canary Wharf to the east) from the bridge are widely held to be the finest from any spot at ground level. A nude man stands on Waterloo Bridge but the thousands of commuters who pass him every day scarcely bat an eyelid. The nude is one of 31 life-size casts of sculptor Antony Gormley dotted around London as part of his latest work, Event Horizon. They all look towards the Hayward Gallery on the South Bank, where an exhibition of Gormley's work, Blind Light, opens today. At this moment in time its a building site for some luxury apartments. The building you refer to on google earth so i hear was to be used for part of the old GLC greater London Council. But like everything to do with the GLC the building was full of lethal blue asbestos and was never used beacause of the health hazzard. Answered by luckylee - Sat Dec 29 11:45:29 2007 Are we heading toward the Waterloo of Keynesian "economic" theory?
Q. While it is perilous for any historian to predict the future, we may well be headed for the Waterloo of Keynesianism (both military and domestic) and that is a good thing. Crudely put, Keynesianism (so named for the British economist John Maynard Keynes) is the theory that government s can speed long-term recovery by running high deficts so as to stimulate aggregate demand or investment. It is the entire basis of Obama s stimulus plan. To some extent, Keynesian ideas were the basis of Bush s massive bailout and big spending policies, most especially his now forgotten stimulus checks.
